Slate of Candidates - 2018 Board of Directors Election

Nominating Committee Chair Glen Hall, MMR, is pleased to announce the slate of candidates for the 2018 SER Board of Directors election.

Voting information.

VICE PRESIDENT

Fred Coleman
NMRA # 127870 00

I am currently serving as Convention Chairman and have served as Vice President, Director, Good and Welfare Chairman, as well as Division Superintendent.  I have received the President’s Award for outstanding contributions to the SER/NMRA and the Dave Muller Award for Individual achievements and volunteerism in promoting the hobby of model railroading.

On a more local level, in the Western North Carolina Model Railroaders, Inc (100% NMRA), I have been the Train Show coordinator for over ten years and coordinator for the club’s modular layout that was built in 2006 and has been set up over 100 times at train shows and festivals in North Carolina and Tennessee to keep model railroading in the public eye.

I would appreciate your vote for Vice President of the SER.

VICE PRESIDENT

Kenneth Mattern
NMRA # 141681

My name is Kenneth Mattern and I live in Huntsville, Al. I’m a retired DoD contractor who specialized in software development and big data mining for many years. I am also a retired licensed minister in the United Church of Christ and in the past have served elected office in my church conference in Pennsylvania. I’m active in my local church, love to cook and read. I’ve been a model railroader in some form or another for longer than I would like to think or remember. I’m currently working on my fourth N-Scale layout. It is a freelanced interchange with the PRR in Lewistown, Pa. I rode the Pennsylvanian, still an Amtrak train, back in the 1960's.

I’ve been an NMRA member for about ten years. I have been active in the Mid-South Division since its reboot a few years back. I’m the webmaster and a director for the division. I have participated in regional conventions and have attended national conventions as well. Though I know how to build models, lay track, run trains and spend too much money at hobby shops I believe that as VP of the SER I will broaden both my friendships and relationships but will also greatly enhance my knowledge of this wonderful hobby. In return I believe, through my experiences working with business and government, as well as the church, I can provide a level of knowledge that will support the region and those in it in a businesslike manner.

SECRETARY

Michael Cummings
NMRA # 159877

My name is Michael Cummings and I am running for the position of Secretary on the SER Board for 2018 / 2019.   I am currently very active in many areas of the Piedmont Division.   I am the current Director of Personnel for the Division, serving thru 2018.   I am also a member of our Marketing Committee, and coordinate the Membership Booth at Atlanta area train shows.

While a member of multiple operating groups in the Atlanta area, I model the Erie Lackawanna Railroad in Scranton, Pennsylvania in the 1970 period.

I hold two degrees in Engineering, I have been active in the global engineering plastics industry for 31 years.   Married and together with my wife Robyn for 37+ years, we have three adult sons and live in Alpharetta, Georgia.

I would appreciate your consideration and support in the upcoming region election.
